Art Centers and Programs
The Parks and Recreation Department provides several options to explore art in your world.
Dougherty Arts Center
The Dougherty Arts Center is an award-winning cultural arts center that offers a variety of visual, performing and digital arts experiences for a broad audience through its three programming components - the Dougherty Arts Center Theater, the Julia C. Butridge Gallery and the Dougherty Arts School. The school features adult and senior art programs as well as youth art classes.
Beverly S. Sheffield Hillside Theater
The Beverly S. Sheffield Hillside Theater, also called Zilker Hillside Theater, hosts community events throughout the year. The Summer Musical at the hillside theater has been an Austin tradition that has thrilled family audiences for over 50 years. Since the inaugural production, Seventeen, on Sept. 1 and 2, 1959, audiences have gathered each summer to be charmed, engaged and entertained at the theater.
Umlauf Sculpture Garden
The Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum is a serene and natural setting for the work of 20th century American sculptor Charles Umlauf and other contemporary sculptors. It is the garden setting that makes learning about sculpture at the Umlauf so appealing.
