UPDATE: On August 7, 2024 there was a DNA link found between Alyssa Ann Rivera's case and the April 14, 2018 unsolved murder of Alba Jenisse Aviles in the 300 block of Old San Antonio Road in Bastrop County, Texas. Ms. Aviles' murder is being investigated by the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office. Ms. Aviles left Club Caribe on Felter Lane in Austin the night she was murdered. This is just over 3 miles away from Ms. Rivera's murder. This series of murders appear to be sexual in nature.

There has been no suspect identified in either case, however the DNA evidence reveals the suspect to be the same in both cases.
APD Homicide detectives also continue to search for leads regarding the person of interest shown in surveillance video who may have information regarding Ms. Rivera's murder.

Deceased victim: Alyssa Ann Rivera, Hispanic female, 12-01-1989
On Friday, June 21, 2024, at approximately 4:06 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to the call of a deceased person in the 2600 block of Metcalfe Road. The caller stated they had seen what appeared to be a deceased person at this location. Officers arrived and located an obviously deceased female in an abandoned house. The female was later identified as Alyssa Rivera; she was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. Detectives believe that Ms. Rivera was murdered at this location by an unknown suspect.
