UPDATE: As the investigation progressed, APD Vehicular Homicide Detectives identified Romel A. Diaz George as a suspect in connection to the crash. On Sunday, October 29, 2023, Diaz George was arrested. He is charged with Failure to Stop and Render Aid.

On Sunday, October 22, 2023, at approximately 5:03 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a vehicle and an unidentified pedestrian in the 700 block of E Braker Ln. The unknown pedestrian died at the scene. However, upon arrival, the officers were unable to find the vehicle involved in the incident.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin's 74th fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 77 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2022, 89 fatal crashes resulted in 92 deaths.
