On Friday, February 21, 2025, at approximately 11:15 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to the intersection of S. IH-35 SVRD NB and E. Ben White Blvd. for a crash involving three vehicles. The driver of the first vehicle fled the scene. The driver of the second vehicle, later identified as Yoania Fernandez, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Ms. Fernandez was later pronounced deceased on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. The driver of the third vehicle remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 8th fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 8 fatalities. This investigation is ongoing. On the date of this crash in 2024, 10 fatal crashes resulted in 10 deaths.
