On Sunday, April 6, 2025, at approximately 2:34 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between two vehicles in the intersection of S. Capital TX HWY SB and Lost Creek Blvd. One of the occupants of the second vehicle, later identified as Mendi Leggett, was pronounced deceased on the scene. Two other occupants from the second vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the first vehicle were not injured, the driver was not impaired, and both cooperated with the investigation.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 23rd fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 27 fatalities. This investigation is ongoing. On the date of this crash in 2024, 21 fatal crashes resulted in 21 deaths.
