On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 1:54 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a pickup truck and an SUV in the intersection of El Salido Parkway and N FM 620 Road. The driver of the SUV died on scene. The driver and passenger of the pickup truck were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of pickup truck was not intoxicated, and is cooperating with the investigation.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin's 2nd fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 2 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 3 fatal crashes resulted in 4 fatalities.
