On Monday, December 11, 2023, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of East 7th Street and Red River Street. The victim, who was later identified as Burt Nomura, died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle left the scene without stopping to render aid. 

This incident is being investigated as Austin's 85th fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 86 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2022, 104 fatal crashes resulted in 108 deaths.
