On Saturday, December 14, 2024, at approximately 4:23 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between two motor vehicles, a sedan and a pick-up truck at the intersection of E. Stassney Ln. and Peppertree Pkwy. The passenger of the sedan, identified as Anthony Benitez-Castaneda, and the driver of the pick-up truck, identified as Ignacio Jaimes-Jaimes, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the sedan was taken to a local hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 87th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 93 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2023, 87 fatal crashes resulted in 90 fatalities.
