On Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 10:26 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian in the 9800 block of North Lamar Boulevard. The pedestrian, Jose Hernandez Patlan, was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the pickup truck remained on scene, was not impaired, and cooperated with the investigation.  

This incident is being investigated as Austin's 12th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 12 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 17 fatal crashes resulted in 17 fatalities.
