On Sunday, August 11, 2024, at approximately 2:29 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving an SUV and a pedestrian in the 900 block of N IH 35 SB. The pedestrian, later identified as Edwin R. Beltran Rodriguez, was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver and a passenger that were traveling in the SUV were not injured, remained on scene, and are cooperating with the investigation.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 54th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 57 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 57 fatal crashes resulted in 60 fatalities.
