On Monday, January 1, 2024, at approximately 5:58 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a vehicle crash between a Sports-Utility-Vehicle and a pedestrian in the 6600 Block of North Interstate Highway 35 SB. The pedestrian died at the scene. The driver remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation and did not show any signs of intoxication.. 
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin's 1st fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 1 fatality for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 1 fatal crash resulted in 1 death.
