On Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at approximately 12:34 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a car and a pedestrian crash in the 5000 block of South Congress Avenue. The unidentified pedestrian was riding a bicycle when the crash happened. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver and the passenger of the vehicle were not injured, remained on scene, and are cooperating with the investigation.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 61st fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 66 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 63 fatal crashes resulted in 66 fatalities.
