On Saturday, March 23, 2024, at approximately 5:04 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 5000 block of North Interstate Highway 35 NB. The unidentified pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the vehicle did not stop to render aid and instead left the scene.

This incident is being investigated as Austin's 19th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 19 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 24 fatal crashes resulted in 24 fatalities.
