On Thursday, September 5, 2024, at approximately 10:08 p.m., Austin Police Officers responded to a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 3400 block of South Congress Avenue. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the vehicle left the scene but was later located. The driver, identified as Julie K Kotrla, was arrested for an accident involving death.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 62nd fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 67 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2023, 63 fatal crashes resulted in 66 fatalities.
