On Saturday, June 29, 2024 at approximately 11:56 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a vehicle and a motorcyclist in the 2400 block of South Mopac EXPY NB. The rider, later identified as Christopher Hale, fell off of his motorcycle and was then struck by the vehicle. Mr. Hale was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased. The occupants of the vehicle remained on scene, were not injured, and the driver was not impaired.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 38th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 39 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 49 fatal crashes resulted in 49 fatalities.
