On Saturday, August 10, 2024, at approximately 8:58 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) Officers responded to a single motorcycle crash in the 2400 block of E SH 71 SVRD EB. The motorcyclist, later identified as Deborah Barela, was transported to a local hospital, where she later pronounced deceased.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 53rd fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 56 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 56 fatal crashes resulted in 59 fatalities.
