On Friday, August 9, 2024, at approximately 4:20 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) Officers responded to a crash involving a train and an SUV in the 1700 block of Matthews Lane. The driver of the SUV, later identified as Scott A. Sticksel, was pronounced deceased on the scene.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 52nd fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 55 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 56 fatal crashes resulted in 59 fatalities.
