On Monday, February 5, 2024, at approximately 6:46 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a pickup truck and an 18-wheeler in the 13400 block of N SH 45 WB. The pickup truck crashed into the back of the tractor trailer. The unidentified driver of the pickup truck was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured, remained on scene, and is cooperating with the investigation.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin's 4th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 4 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 10 fatal crashes resulted in 10 fatalities.
