On Thursday, August 15, 2024, at approximately 11:27 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving five vehicles the 12500 block of South IH 35 northbound proper. One driver, later identified as Pedro Arroyo, was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased on August 17, 2024. The occupants of a second vehicle were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the remaining three vehicles were not injured.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 56th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 60 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 59 fatal crashes resulted in 62 fatalities.
