Every weekend in April, the Austin Police Department (APD) will be intensifying efforts to address impaired driving in Downtown Austin. As part of this initiative, Drug Recognition Expert Officers will be deployed on Friday and Saturday nights focused on keeping our streets safe by targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

APD’s priority is to protect the community. Every impaired driver that officers catch is one less potential danger on the road. APD wants to remind the community that driving under the influence is not only illegal, but reckless and unacceptable. APD would like to encourage everyone to make responsible decisions and use alternatives like ride-sharing services or designated drivers when drinking.
