Suspect (arrested): Luis Marroquin, Hispanic male, 32 years of age
On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at approximately 4:17 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to the C-Mart located at 7811 South 1st Street for reports of a stabbing. When officers arrived on the scene, they found one Hispanic male on the ground outside, bleeding from a puncture wound to his chest. The victim, who remains unidentified, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 5:08 p.m.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed that the suspect, later identified as Luis Marroquin, knew the victim because they both worked as day laborers in the area. Marroquin had seen victim earlier in the day at Home Depot while waiting for work. Marroquin was sitting next to the victim in the parking lot of the store and unprovokedly turned and stabbed the victim. Officers were able to locate Marroquin in the area described by witnesses and detain him.
Marroquin was arrested for 1st Degree Murder and booked into the Travis County jail.
