Suspect (Arrested): Jacqueline Mendoza-Ramirez, Hispanic female, 21 years of age
On Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at approximately 3:10 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to Dell Children’s Medical Center located at 4900 Mueller Boulevard for a Deceased Person call. The parents of a 6-week-old baby had transported their baby, later identified as Marcello Hernandez-Mendoza, to the hospital due to him not breathing. Hospital staff attempted life-saving measures on Marcello, but were unfortunately unsuccessful. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The initial investigation showed Marcello had several trauma injuries to his body. Child Protective Services (CPS) was notified, and the parents of Marcello were interviewed.
On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for the mother, Jacqueline Mendoza-Ramirez, for Capital Murder in the death of Marcello Hernandez-Mendoza. She was arrested the same day for the warrant.

This case is being investigated as Austin's 66th homicide of 2024.
