On Thursday, November 7, 2024, at approximately 5:54 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to the 6400 block of East US HWY 290 SVRD EB for reports of a person having been shot. When officers arrived on the scene, they found one victim, later identified as Shelby Wayne Cody, with gunshot wounds. APD officers provided life-saving measures until Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) arrived on the scene. Mr. Cody was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 6:25 p.m.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed that the victim had arrived for an appointment when he was shot by the suspect who then fled the area.
