On Friday, December 13, 2024, at approximately 1:41 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a shooting call at Saint David’s North Austin Medical Center located at 12221 North Mopac Expressway. The caller, who is a security guard for the hospital, explained a male arrived by private vehicle to the hospital with a single gunshot wound. The male victim was later identified as Carlos Sotelo. APD officers arrived at the hospital and fully identified the driver of the vehicle that brought Mr. Sotelo to the hospital, who was a witness of the incident. Mr. Sotelo was later pronounced deceased on Saturday, December 14, at 10:28 a.m.
 
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed that Mr. Sotelo and other occupants were in their vehicle in the parking garage of the Griffis apartments located at 3210 Esperanza Crossing. Multiple suspects approached the victims and attempted to rob them at gunpoint. When the driver of the victim vehicle attempted to drive away to flee the gunman, the suspects fired into the vehicle, striking Mr. Sotelo.
