AUSTIN, Texas - The Environmental Health Services Division of the City of Austin's Public Health Department is being recognized for its exceptional performance in promoting public health during National Public Health Week, which takes place from April 3-9, 2023.
The Environmental Health Services Division has made significant contributions towards ensuring a healthy and safe environment for Austin residents. The division also conducted 12,946 retail food inspections, 1,821 mobile food inspections, and 2,063 special event inspections, all aimed at ensuring food safety and quality in the city.

The division also contracts with Pflugerville, Lakeway, Westlake, Bee Cave, Rollingwood, San Leanna, Volente, Sunset Valley, Manor, and Travis County, which has enabled the division to serve a larger population.
The Environmental Health Services Division is not limited to food safety programs. Its environmental health officers regularly provide support and resources to the community to address concerns related to the environment, making it a valuable resource for Travis County residents and visitors.
"The Environmental Health Services Division has played an important role during the pandemic, from implementing masking requirements to providing guidelines for food deliveries while restaurants were closed. The division's efforts continue to be instrumental in ensuring public health and safety in Austin and the surrounding areas,” said APH Director Adrienne Sturrup.
