National Public Health Week is April 1-7, 2024
AUSTIN, Texas - The sun is out, flowers are in bloom, and it’s the start of National Public Health Week – What more could you want? It’s hard to believe that just four years ago, staff didn’t have time to recognize this week as they were responding to the pandemic, working to get us back to normalcy with the spring festival season, events and the Austin Public Health (APH) services that have since come back full force. This week, we recognize the staff, community and people who make public health happen. Join us in promoting the services that keep our community healthy so we can enjoy the little things.
"This time of the year is an excellent reminder of just how many aspects of life are directly affected by public health," said APH Director Adrienne Sturrup, “Making sure vaccines are available for kiddos, inspecting your favorite restaurants to ensure they’re following best practices and providing new moms guidance and support are just a few of the many efforts happening every day to make a healthier community for all.”
To kick off National Public Health Week, APH has released a video highlighting more than a dozen of our programs.
"I want to use this week as an opportunity to encourage everyone to take care of their health needs. The pandemic put a pause on regular checkups for many, now is the time to schedule your next appointment," said Austin-Travis County Health Authority Dr. Desmar Walkes. "At Austin Public Health, we offer services for a variety of health needs and have connections with community partners who offer additional services. Don’t let any worries get in the way of living a healthy life – we're here to help you."
