Public encouraged to attend public health events
AUSTIN, Texas – The start of April is a lively time in Austin –Bluebonnets are in bloom, indoor gatherings are moving outdoors, and most exciting of all, it's National Public Health Week (NPHW). To celebrate the occasion, Austin Public Health (APH) will promote our staff's work and the services they offer to the community that some may be unaware of. Join us in celebrating creating a healthy community together through public health.
"This year's theme is "Centering and Celebrating Cultures in Health." APH recognizes the importance that our cultures play in shaping the community's health. We are thankful for the community's continued leadership and guidance that give power to our three Ps – Preventing illness and disease, Promoting community-wide wellness and self-sufficiency, and Protecting our community from environmental hazards," said APH Director Adrienne Sturrup.
Starting today, APH will share videos highlighting various services offered through the department. The videos will feature community health workers, epidemiologists and more of the team that are the backbone of public health efforts in Austin-Travis County.
The first video features our Immunizations Program – a program many residents had the opportunity to meet with during the pandemic. This video will highlight the team's work outside of mass COVID-19 vaccination clinics – From community partnerships to get kids vaccinated against the flu to our static Shots for Tots and Big Shots clinics that offer a number of vaccines to children and adults.
APH is hosting two community events this week featuring vaccines, health screenings, food and more. The entire Austin-Travis County community is invited.
