Austin Extends Cooling Center Hours Over Holiday Weekend
City of Austin will extend hours for Cooling Center locations at Library and Parks and Recreation (PARD) facilities over the holiday weekend due to extreme heat.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued Heat Advisories as temperatures are expected to remain high throughout the holiday weekend. Because there have been multiple days over 100 degrees and Heat Advisory / Excessive Heat Warnings have been issued by NWS, the City’s Heat Plan has been activated.
On Sunday, June 18, 2023 Parks and Rec Facilities that are normally open on Sunday will stay open late to 8 p.m.
On Monday, June 19, 2023, the City will keep some facilities open as Cooling Centers, while other City buildings and facilities will be closed due to the Juneteenth holiday.
