Austin Emergency Management Officials Encourage Residents Impacted by Severe Weather to Report Damage
April showers left some north Austin residents with flood damage after the storm. If federal disaster thresholds are met, Austin residents in Travis and Williamson Counties could be eligible for recovery assistance in the form of Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Assistance Loans.
City of Austin Homeland Security and Emergency Management is encouraging residents to complete a damage report using the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT).
Residents can submit their damages online at damage.tdem.texas.gov. Once on the page, scroll down and click on Severe Weather April 22nd listed under the 2023 Incidents section. A Spanish version of the form is available by clicking on Tormenta de Clima Severo 22 de Abril. Tutorial videos are available in English and Spanish. Local and state officials will work to verify damage reported to homes and business owners through iSTAT to validate submissions and determine the state’s eligibility for the SBA loan program.
To assist with the efficiency of the process, residents are encouraged to submit their iSTAT reports by June 1, 2023.
Note: iSTAT is not a substitute for submitting damages to your home or auto insurance provider.
The Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management partnered with Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) and The American Red Cross to visit residents in the Mearns Meadows neighborhood following the storm to assess damage and needs. Today, City of Austin representatives will go door-to-door in Mearns Meadow to inform residents of the iSTAT damage reporting tool and resources that may be available through SBA.
For more information, visit SBA.gov. TDEM information for individuals and families can be accessed at TDEM's webpage.
