AUSTIN, TEXAS – 2024 marked another exciting year for Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). The airport continued its mission to connect travelers to the world while embracing growth, innovation, and a vibrant spirit reflective of Austin and Central Texas. With a total 21,762,904 departing and arriving passengers passing through our doors, AUS proudly reinforced its role as a gateway for Central Texas and beyond. 2024’s passenger totals now mark the second-busiest year on record for the airport.
AUS celebrated the addition of eight new nonstop destinations, including:
- San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU)
- Monterrey, Mexico (MTY)
- McAllen, TX (MFE)
- Midland, TX (MAF)
- Montreal, Canada (YUL)
- Cleveland, OH (CLE)
- Harlingen, TX
- Omaha, NE (OMA)
Additionally, the airport welcomed Viva Aerobus to the lineup of airline partners, further expanding options for travelers. This year also marked a significant milestone with British Airways celebrating 10 years of connecting Central Texas to London Heathrow (LHR), a critical transatlantic gateway for exploring Europe and beyond.
In 2024, AUS concessions delighted passengers with over 1.1 million tacos sold, 169,377 pounds of Salt Lick BBQ brisket, and 71,576 beers poured at The Beerdrop. Local flavors and merchandise continued to shine, with 9,794 Tyler’s T-shirts and 7,607 “Keep Austin Weird” shirts sold. From the 31,286 eggs and 26,392 burgers served at 24 Diner, 45,000 smoothies and juices Jugo squeezed, to the nearly 40,000 sushi rolls enjoyed at Komé Sushi A-Go-Go, AUS made sure passengers were well-fed and entertained throughout their journey.
AUS’s renowned Arts and Music Program also thrived with 1,351 live performances featuring over 200 local bands and musicians, celebrating Austin’s title as the “Live Music Capital of the World.” Additionally, there were 19 rotating art exhibits, including student showcases, highlighting the creativity of 98 local artists and 99 students.
The Journey With AUS expansion program continued to make progress with ground breaking ceremonies for key projects, steel installation milestones, all while completing the solicitation and procurement process for all major projects. The expansion represents an estimated $4 billion investment into modernizing and expanding Austin-Bergstrom.
Passenger Activity: Total passenger traffic for December 2024 was 1,826,157, up 1.31% compared to December 2023. December 2024 enplanements totaled 926,479, up 0.65%.
Southwest Airlines passengers totaled 780,384, up 5.1%; American Airlines passengers totaled 324,060, down 25.8%; Delta Air Lines passengers totaled 286,255, up 25.6%; United Airlines passengers totaled 218,494, up 11.1%; Alaska Airlines passengers totaled 62,380, up 10.7%; Spirit Airlines passengers totaled 31,110, down 9.2%; Frontier Airlines passengers totaled 29,164, up 409.1%; Allegiant Air passengers totaled 20,914, down 18.3%; British Airways passengers totaled 18,940, up 12.4%; Aeromexico passengers totaled 9,137, up 67.8%; JetBlue Airways passengers totaled 8,076, down 63.5%; Air Canada passengers totaled 7,393, up 10.4%; Hawaiian Airlines passengers totaled 6,880, up 19.9%; Lufthansa passengers totaled 6,865, up 19.6%; KLM Royal Dutch Airlines passengers totaled 6,556, up 9.9%; Copa Airlines passengers totaled 5,741, up 23.9%; VivaAerobus passengers totaled 3,488; and Sun Country Airlines passengers totaled 320, up 32.8%.
December 2024 air cargo totaled 24,672,430 lbs., down 8.88% compared to December 2023.
International air cargo totaled 1,842,864 lbs., down 12.56%.
Air Transport International carried 9,019,223 lbs., down 5.5%; Federal Express carried 3,980,060 lbs., down 42.5%; United Parcel Services carried 3,804,615 lbs., up 6.9%; Atlas Air carried 1,826,279 lbs., up 43.5%.; and Sun Country Airlines carried 1,598,651 lbs., up 68%.
Air Services transferred 0 lbs. of mail, down 100%; and 3,278,256 lbs. of belly freight, down 8.04%.
Aircraft Operations: General Aviation operations totaled 3,256, down 8.9%. Combined operations (including commercial and military) totaled 20,430, down 10.1%.
Passenger Activity: Total passenger traffic for January – December 2024 was 21,762,904, down 1.51% compared to January – December 2023. January – December 2024 enplanements totaled 10,882,581, down 1.52%.
Southwest Airlines passengers totaled 8,974,027, up 5.2%; American Airlines passengers totaled 4,273,192, down 18.6%; Delta Air Lines passengers totaled 3,324,018, up 20%; United Airlines passengers totaled 2,578,225, up 3.3%; Alaska Airlines passengers totaled 791,192, down 8.1%; Spirit Airlines passengers totaled 334,089, down 55.3%; Allegiant Air passengers totaled 306,967, down 18.6%; Frontier Airlines passengers totaled 223,959, up 119.3%; British Airways passengers totaled 203,338, up 6.4%; JetBlue Airways passengers totaled 195,741, down 31.4%; Air Canada passengers totaled 124,339, up 43.3%; Lufthansa passengers totaled 92,834, up 35.5%; Aeromexico passengers totaled 78,196, up 27.5%; KLM Royal Dutch Airlines passengers totaled 73,594, up 6.5%; Hawaiian Airlines passengers totaled 66,444, down 18.5%; Copa Airlines passengers totaled 59,879, up 116.1%; VivaAerobus passengers totaled 32,105; WestJet passengers totaled 15,052, up 28.5%; Sun Country Airlines passengers totaled 13,851, down 18.8%; Virgin Atlantic passengers totaled 1,136, down 98%; Condor passengers totaled 243; Korean Air passengers totaled 243; Eastern Airlines passengers totaled 155; Titan Airways passengers totaled 44; and Flightworx Aviation passengers totaled 41.
January – December 2024 air cargo totaled 301,898,138 lbs., up 6.66% compared to January – December 2023.
International air cargo totaled 30,078,426 lbs., up 23.26%.
Air Transport International carried 99,316,207 lbs., up 24.9%; Federal Express carried 72,141,942 lbs., down 9.8%; United Parcel Services carried 31,035,956 lbs., down 6.5%; Atlas Air carried 24,169,540 lbs., down 10.2%; and Sun Country Airlines carried 19,634,323 lbs., up 83.3%.
Air Services transferred 568,165 lbs. of mail, down 80.83%; and 41,277,057 lbs. of belly freight, up 13.35%.
Aircraft Operations: General Aviation operations totaled 42,866 for January – December 2024, down 7.08%. Combined operations (including commercial and military) totaled 259,967, down 5.73%.
