On Friday, November 22, 2024, members of the Austin Police Department (APD) North Metro Tactical Response Unit and North Criminal Investigation Department worked in conjunction with approximately 20 local retail representatives to conduct a Shoplifting Blitz. This operation focused specifically on the areas including The Domain, Arbor Walk, Gateway, and Arboretum Shopping Centers in North Austin. The goal of the operation was to provide assistance to retailers in the area by taking appropriate enforcement action on suspected shoplifters.
As a result of the operation, officers arrested two suspects for Organized Retail Theft.
At approximately 3:15 pm, Marshall’s Loss Prevention reported there were two suspects inside who were showing evidence of Organized Retail Theft. The suspects were removing anti-theft security devices and concealing stolen items, sneakers and wallets, in their clothing.
Officers in the area were able to assist with the apprehension as the suspects left the store with the stolen merchandise still concealed on their persons. The suspects were safely detained and $312.61 in stolen merchandise and tools used to remove the anti-theft devices were located and seized.
Officers identified the vehicle belonging to the suspects, officers located three reusable shopping bags filled with similar stolen merchandise, shoes, and wallets with tags on the inside of them. These items belonged to Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, and Ross Department Stores.
The suspects were identified as Omar Cuellar Sanchez (43 years of age, Hispanic male) and Dailena Rodriguez Herrera (27 years of age, Hispanic female). Omar and Dailena were arrested for Theft Class B. Marshall’s reported the additional merchandise recovered from their vehicle was valued at $548.79. The total recovery from the suspect vehicle, from the three retailers, was valued at approximately $1,000.
