The Austin Police Department is currently seeking applicants for the 144th cadet class, the first to complete training with the Academy’s new curriculum and expanded community engagement programming. With a reimagined APD training academy starting June 7, applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as the application period closes on Friday, May 14.
The Department is hosting an enrollment session which consists of a physical fitness test and written exam, for those interested in joining the Academy.
“We are excited to welcome an outstanding group of cadets to the 144th academy class in a few short weeks,” said Assistant Chief James Mason. “Our instructors have worked diligently to implement a new adult learning curriculum geared toward enhancing community engagement, equity and inclusion. This exciting new approach to cadet training builds resilience and represents the feedback we received from the Austin community.”
After applications are submitted online, applicants will need to choose one testing session from the dates listed below. APD is committed to serving our diverse community and encourages all applicants to attend. All testing sessions begin at 7 a.m. at the Recruiting Office, located at 1520 Rutherford Lane Bldg. 3, Austin, TX 78754.
