Suspect (arrested):  Ashton Kaine Talley, 24 years of age

UPDATE: The suspect taken into custody by Austin Police Department (APD) officers is Ashton Kaine Talley. He was arrested and booked into the Travis County Jail. Talley is charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon and one count of Evading Arrest. The victim is in stable condition.

On Tuesday, January 9, 2023, at approximately 9:57 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to multiple calls reporting an attack involving a machete in the 200 block of 1st Street. Officers responded to the scene and located a victim with apparent stab wounds. The victim was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
 
One suspect is in APD custody.
