Suspect (arrested):  Sean Michael MacDonald, White male, 35 years of age

 
On January 16, 2024, the Austin Police Department (APD) initiated an investigation regarding False Identification as a Peace Officer after photos of a subject in an Austin Police Department uniform came to light. The subject in the photos was not recognized as a present or past APD Officer.
 
The investigation, which is still ongoing, is being conducted by the Austin Police Department Aggravated Assault Unit with the assistance of the Austin Police Department Violent Crimes Task Force. The investigation has identified the suspect as Sean Michael Macdonald of Pflugerville.
 
On January 22, 2024, Sean Michael Macdonald was arrested on charges of False Identification as a Peace Officer.

False Identification as a Peace Officer

The Austin Police Department Aggravated Assault Unit is asking for anyone who has had contact with Macdonald while representing himself as an Austin Police Officer to contact the Austin Police Department. This includes instances of stating he was a police officer and instances where he took action as an Austin Police Officer.
