In order to combat crime during weekend one of the 2024 Fall Music Festival, Austin Police Department (APD) officers worked tirelessly to deter criminal activity, stop crimes in progress, and apprehend offenders. These combined efforts dramatically reduced the chance of festival-goers falling victim to a crime.
APD arrested two individuals (one for Evading on Foot and the other for a Request to Apprehend), responded to 225 calls for service, and took 70 offense reports during weekend one. A total of 44 theft from person reports were taken and of those, 42 were for cell phones.
The breakdown by week of these arrests and reports are below:
Offense - Arrests | Weekend 1 | Weekend 2 | Total |
Total | 2 | 0 | 2 |
Calls for Service | Weekend 1 | Weekend 2 | Total |
Total | 225 | 0 | 225 |
Offense - Reports | Weekend 1 | Weekend 2 | Total |
Total | 70 | 0 | 70 |
These statistics only account for incidents that occurred within Zilker Park. APD’s crime database is continuously updated. Reports run at different times may produce different results. We will provide numbers for weekend two, after the festival ends.
APD would like to remind festival-goers of the following safety tips so we can reduce these numbers, prevent more crimes from happening, and more property from being stolen:
- Don’t put your cell phone in your back pocket or sticking out of a backpack where it can be easily grabbed.
- If you do bring a fanny pack or backpack, make sure it is zipped or locked.
- Pay attention to your surroundings, especially in crowds.
- Need help? Look for one of our officers to assist.
- Keep your property secure or leave it at home.
- Use APD’s online reporting site (ireportaustin.com) or Austin 3-1-1 (non-emergency) to report a theft that is not actively occurring.
- Plan your route to and from the festival.
If you have information on individuals or groups of individuals who have committed crimes, please call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 512-472-8477 (TIPS), or use the Crime Stoppers app. You may earn a reward of up to $1,000.00, and you will remain anonymous.
