The Austin Police Department (APD) continues to investigate the officer-involved shooting that occurred on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 7:58 p.m., in the 900 Block of South 1st St., in Lockhart, Texas.
The Officer who discharged their department-approved firearm has been placed on administrative leave.
There will be two concurrent investigations into this incident: a criminal investigation conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Rangers, in conjunction with a criminal review by the Caldwell County District Attorney’s Office, and an administrative investigation conducted by the APD Internal Affairs Unit, with oversight from the Office of Police Oversight.

The Austin Police Department (APD) Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit responded to an agency assist in Lockhart, Texas on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at approximately 5 p.m. The officer-involved shooting occurred at 7:34 p.m. in the 900 block of S. 1st St. in Lockhart, Texas. One suspect was shot and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured in the incident.
The APD SWAT Team routinely assists other agencies when called for mutual aid. Each agency operates under their own department policies and standard operating procedures regarding SWAT operations.
The Caldwell County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing this incident, and the DPS Texas Rangers are the lead investigating agency. At the request of the Caldwell County D.A., this incident will not be treated as an APD Critical Incident Briefing (CIB), and no materials will be released.
