On Saturday, December 2, 2023, at approximately 1:21 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a call reporting a body in a retention pond near Slaughter Lane and the 8800 block South Congress Avenue.
 
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene. The death was determined not to be a homicide.
 
At this time, APD and TCME is requesting the public’s assistance with identifying any relatives of the decedent.
 
Jose Lopez is described as:

• Aliases: Carlos Jose Lopez, Francisco Olivas, Marcos Rumilio Cheguen Lopez
• Hispanic male
• Possibly from Central or South America
• Approximately 4’11”
• 117 lbs.
• Short black hair
• Black goatee with stubble
• Has several teeth missing and potential evidence of surgical metal plate to the jaw (potential history of broken jaw)

 
At the time of death, he was wearing:

• A large grey “lucky house” brand
• Size 30x30 “American eagle” brand denim jeans
• Size 13 blue/Grey “brooks” brand shoes
• Possible date of birth: 2/10/1993, 2/10/1990, 2/10/1989, or 10/17/1991
