The City of Austin Development Services Department (DSD) will host two opportunities this month to learn more about proposed Code amendments requiring bedroom windows in future building projects.

A September 2023 resolution by the Austin City Council initiated Code amendments that would require access to natural light for all sleeping rooms in new buildings. The resolution also included proposed language for the Code amendments.
DSD is working to incorporate new requirements into the City’s 2021 Technical Codes, which are currently in effect, and plans to present its final recommendations to Council in April 2024. The new requirements also will be included in amendments to 2024 Technical Codes later this year.
