Accidently break your favorite handmade ceramic bowl from pottery class? Save the pieces and put them back together by trying a Kintsugi-inspired method taught by DAC resident artist Chance Ramirez!
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending with gold, celebrating the imperfections of life. Students are asked to bring broken pottery from home to repair using a Kintsugi-inspired processes. A brief history and appreciation of Kintsugi will be given and participants will bring new life to their broken ceramic pieces using adhesive and gold-colored powder. This is a great way for students to explore creative reuse and discover new ways to appreciate old pieces of work. Repaired pieces will be for display only and will not be food safe.
Inspired by a career in mental health, Visual Artist in Residency Chance Ramirez makes hand-built works about pleasure, pain, and joyful resistance for people who like getting lost in the details. Using an abundance of textures and colors, Chance invites the audience to reach outward and inward with curiosity. Her work attempts to answer the question, “What does it mean to be human?”
This workshop is free, but pre-registration is required.
