Join us for another Create & Heal at Carver Museum ATX on Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 6-9PM. The Carver, in partnership with Huston-Tillotson, invites you to join us for a transformative experience that celebrates the power of our ancestors and the beauty of mixed media art. In this special workshop, we will come together to honor our heritage, share stories, and create meaningful artwork using copies of pictures of our beloved ancestors.
Guided by the spirit of creativity, we will combine various materials such as paint, canvas, papers, tape, and fabric to craft mixed media art that reflects the essence of our ancestors. This workshop is a sanctuary for exploration, healing, and connection. By exploring the profound roots of our family heritage, we will rediscover the unifying bonds and celebrate the vibrant diversity within our community. To enrich our artistic creations, we encourage participants to bring any found materials that hold personal significance, infusing our artwork with layers of meaning.
Bring in a copy of an image, artifact or document connected to your ancestors that will serve as the foundation of an art piece to honor your lineage and ancestral connections. Some art supplies will be provided by the Carver, however brining supplies and materials to share is encouraged!
Facilitator, Sabrina Mooroogen, will guide this creative workshop, share techniques that will help you connect to yourself and your ancestors, and story tell open a dialogue about the connections we hold to our past.
Light refreshments and snacks will be graciously provided by Huston-Tillotson, free and open to the public, 18+ Food served at 6:00PM, workshop begins at 7:00PM.
