On November 10, 2022, the OPO received a phone complaint.
The complainant alleges: A gentleman who came into his store was asked to leave. The
person got really angry and threw a potted plant and started throwing other stuff around.
The police were called four times because he had injured an employee. It was still 25
minutes before the police arrived. The complainant told APD he wanted to file charges
because the guy swung a bucket of nails at him. The officer responded that he did not
actually hit him and that if it was a crowbar, it would be different. The police who
responded decided not to file charges because the person had mental health issues and
admitted to being intoxicated and on cocaine.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
