On February 15, 2022 the OPO received a phone complaint.
The complainant alleges: Her vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle. When she got home,
she called 311 to give details about the accident. 311 gave her a service request number and told
her APD would follow up with her within 24-48 hours. Around
she received a call
from APD intake but not from an APD officer. That person gave her the police report number for
her records. After confirming the location of security cameras in that area she was told the footage
would only be released to APD. When the person from APD called she gave them the information
and she was told that since the other driver left the scene and there was no information about him
the case would be closed. No detective ever contacted her from APD regarding the accident and
on
of
she received what appeared to be a form e-mail from APD traffic
enforcement saying based on the lack of investigative leads the case was being suspended. She
spent over 4 hours on that same day trying to speak to someone at APD. When she finally spoke
to 311 again, she found out no detective had been assigned to her case. There seems to be some
kind of pattern of APD following up. She wants to find out if APD ever reached out to businesses
in that area that had security camera footage. APD case #
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to determine
if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service Rules, and Municipal
Civil Service Rules.
