NOTICE OF COMPLAINT
June 24, 2022
ICMS #: 2022-0529
On June 22, 2022, the OPO received a phone complaint.
The complainant alleges: She was moving back into town. She parked the U-Haul outside
of the facility they were moving into, and the keys were accidentally locked inside the
vehicle. She called U-Haul and waited for roadside assistance and waited all night. She
decided to go get something to eat. When she returned the U-Haul truck had been stolen
SO she called the police. Because of the stress, she ended up going to the hospital because
of high blood pressure. The police called her at the hospital and told her they found the
truck. The police came and picked her up from the hospital and gave her the keys. When
they got to the U-Haul, she realized the key to the U-Haul was not on the key ring.
Her
complaint is that the police got frustrated waiting with her on the U-Haul Roadside
assistance to bring the keys SO she could get the stuff. The police released the vehicle to
her after
She went to where the police were parked, and they had left her there. Her
phone was broken SO she could not call anyone. The police texted her later and said the U-
Haul was no longer reported as stolen. She waited in the U-Haul with broken windows,
for roadside service. U-Haul eventually called and said they were not picking the truck up
until the next day. While she was on the phone with U-Haul some guy walked up with a
screwdriver and a hammer and told her he was taking the truck. The U-Haul lady on the
phone called the police on 3-way because the guy was not from U-Haul. The police told
her the guy was probably from U-Haul and to let him take the truck. Officers then showed
up and helped the guy take the vehicle. Everything she owned was in the U-Haul and she
had to sleep outside. The police are acting like it is no big deal. They just left her in the
middle of a homeless camp. Case#
