On August 2, 2022, the OPO received a phone complaint.
The complainant alleges: She went to check on her son because he had been off his
medication for days and was talking about killing himself and saying he was going to get
a gun and blow his brains out. Her son was having a high psychotic episode. She called an
APD mental officer on the phone for 15 minutes explaining to him that her son was bipolar
and schizophrenic and was not on his medications. When the officer responded to the call,
she explained her son had been in the hospital and off his medication for days. After the
officer spoke to her son, he said her son was ok and there was nothing APD could do. She
is very upset because the officers were not concerned with the safety of her son. The
officers continued to tell her that her son was ok and that he was probably on drugs. The
officers only asked her son 3 or 4 questions and denied hearing her son saying he was going
to hurt himself. A friend who called in an episode
is willing to talk to a
sergeant about her son's condition.

determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
