NOTICE OF COMPLAINT
January 6, 2023
ICMS #: 2023-0001
On December 30, 2022, the OPO received a phone complaint.
The complainant alleges: There was an attempted robbery and illegal entry by another
apartment tenant's guest. When she called the police, Officer
arrived to the scene
that day. There was another officer with her. Officer
was trying to get her to come
out of her apartment because they had received a call or complaint from someone who said
that she had a knife. First of all, she told them that she would not be leaving her baby
unattended to address this matter. Secondly, she did have a knife on the counter where she
was unloading groceries and cooking. More importantly, there was a new female tenant
moving in who had two of her friends going through the shoeboxes from Dillards at her
front door and trying to open her door at
in the morning. Her neighbor caught this on
camera. And then, these people entered her apartment while she was there and had just
given birth to her baby girl. She told the officer, "Give me a police report number or what.'
Officer
said, "Hold on, give me a second." She doesn't know if Officer
went downstairs to talk to the property manager or what but she came back and may have
given her a police report that day because she normally asks for it. She should've asked for
a sergeant that day as well but she had just moved in literally 24 hours before given birth
and had her baby three days later. The property manager gave her a 24 hour notice as well
as the other person, and the other person took off. She has the police report and the video
and everything SO they can't give her that notice. She was focused on her baby's safety and
never asked for a sergeant or followed up on that.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
