NOTICE OF COMPLAINT
March 24, 2023
ICMS #: 2023-0232
On March 21, 2023, the OPO received a phone complaint.
The complainant alleges: Police officers have taken reports from
years ago to pad
evidence for family violence and make it look like more than one incident. The police said
they cannot prosecute the other cases, but they report them to pad one person's evidence
against the other person. The police never talked to the one that was supposed to have
committed the offense. They only reported the other person's information in order to make
it look like more than one offense of family violence when it wasn't. According to the
family violence task force that responded, police gave the other person legal advice and
none of them were attorneys. The complaint wants to know why the police were giving
the other person legal advice and they were not attorneys.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
