On March 3, 2023, the OPO received a phone complaint.
The complainant alleges: The complainant's granddaughter's boyfriend,
was wrongfully arrested and had to spend 3 days in jail because it was a holiday
weekend. He was ill at the time and not allowed to go to medical.
and the
complainant's granddaughter have a soon-to-be 2-year-old. While awaiting his court date,
his lawyer got the OK from the court for him to remove his tracking bracelet. However, he
was arrested on a warrant that said he had removed the bracelet unlawfully. The arresting
officer was told that the bracelet hadn't been removed illegally. The officer said if there's a
warrant, an arrest has to be made. The complainant states that there should be better
communication between agencies SO this kind of thing doesn't happen to someone else.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
