NOTICE OF COMPLAINT
March 3, 2023
ICMS #: 2023-0178
On March 1, 2023, the OPO received a phone complaint.
The complainant alleges: The complainant went to pick up her 15-year-old son from his
dad's house. He was playing basketball outside. Police were there because of a stolen car.
Officer
approached her son and asked about some pictures stolen out of the car.
Her son replied that he didn't have anything to do with that. The officer replied with, "that's
real
up" and some other things. When the complainant found out about this, she
spoke with the officer. She expressed that her son is a minor and asked how he is
responsible for stolen vehicles. Is he supposed to ask everyone that drives up if the car is
stolen? She asked how he would feel if someone spoke to his child that way and told him
that she didn't think what he did was very professional. Officer
only replied
with short answers like "ok" and "anything else?" like he didn't care about the
complainant's concerns. Why would he just approach whoever was around, and a minor at
that? Is that protocol? He was interrogating a minor without his mother present for
something that had nothing to do with him. The complainant's service request,
has been closed but was not resolved.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
