NOTICE OF COMPLAINT
August 26, 2022
ICMS #: 2022-0715
On August 24, 2022, the OPO received a phone complaint.
The complainant alleges: There have been incidents dating back almost
months ago.
He has made several attempts to file reports with APD, ask for additional patrol in his area,
and ask that the police do something rather than nothing. On the
he discovered two
males that had broken into his house and was vandalizing and smoking drugs at his home.
The two males left the scene. When the police were called, they told him to file a report,
but APD did nothing about it. They are doing their job ticketing drivers, but not doing
their
job regarding actual crimes. There is a lack of willingness to do anything about actual
crimes. Almost a
ago he had property broken into in South Austin and several
thousand dollars worth of property was stolen. He waited over four hours for a response
from APD. He did not receive a response from APD for follow-up until
later.
There continues to be a lack of willingness from APD especially on the East side. He has
not seen one police car patrolling his area and it is a high-crime area. Everyone knows that
crime is there, but the police department avoids it and it is very frustrating.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
