On July 29, 2022, the OPO received an online complaint.
The complainant alleges: My complaint is really for a situation that happened and I would
have thought that the police person would have done something (at least a warning). I was
riding my bike from work (hospital) to home, when I went by the corner of

a small car (honda or Toyota?) turned left from

the person saw me coming and almost hit me (I had to brake hard), there was a police
car (
waiting in the first line on
making a left into
I had the right
to continue straight but the car just went for it, the driver saw me there were not any big
vehicles to make it difficult for driver to not see me. It is a situation that happens around
twice a year to me and I have been fortunate to not have gotten hit. I find it really upsetting
that this time a police car witnessed the whole thing and nothing happened to the driver at
a minimum I would think a warning could have been given to driver. I guess I have to get
hit in order for the police to do something about it? I pay lots of property taxes a year to
live in a city where I should feel safe to ride my bike from home-work-home
and
recreationally. Having the constant reminder that in a second my life and my family"s can
change to the worse is not fair. My only hope is that this can be discuss with the police
person and perhaps send a warning to the car driver, there seemed to be cameras in that
corner, if they work you should be able to go back to that time and see the whole event.
Hopefully something happens...
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
